Almost every estimate we write in Nampa, Boise, and Meridian comes down to the same question: epoxy or polyaspartic? Both produce a durable, sealed, good-looking floor. The differences are in cure time, UV stability, and how the coating behaves when Idaho temperatures swing 40 degrees in a day.
Epoxy is the thicker, more rigid option. It self-levels beautifully, builds serious film thickness in a single coat, and costs less per square foot. The tradeoff is time: a full epoxy system typically needs 24 hours before you walk on it and three to five days before you park a car. Straight epoxy also ambers — turns slightly yellow — where direct sunlight hits it, which matters if your garage door stays open or the slab runs out to a patio.
Polyaspartic cures in hours. We've finished plenty of two-car garages where the homeowner walked on the floor that same evening and parked on it the next day. It stays clear under UV, and its more flexible film handles the freeze-thaw movement our slabs go through every winter. It costs more, and it goes off fast, which is exactly why it isn't a DIY product.
In practice we install a lot of hybrid systems: an epoxy or pigmented base coat for build and color, then a polyaspartic clear as the wear layer. You get the thickness and cost efficiency of epoxy underneath with the UV stability and fast cure of polyaspartic on top.
The one thing that matters more than either choice: preparation. A polyaspartic floor over an unground slab will fail faster than a properly ground epoxy floor. We diamond grind every job, repair the cracks, and only then talk about which resin goes on top.
